Even as the standoff with China continues India is being praised in its local media for the GST introduced in India. The Global Media, a nationalist tabloid of China has been hitting out on India since they alleged that India was trying to build a road in the Chinese area. It had stated that China was no more a low-cost manufacturing country or was rather moving away from it. The tabloid was hoping that India could take over from where China left. But the poor infrastructure and the difficulty in implementing the policies and the different taxation in the states made this process a little difficult. It was then the Modi government announced GST and now the same tabloid is praising the reforms and saying positive about the country’s Make In India programme.

The Chinese standoff with India continues and in G20 Summit there were no exchanges between China’s premier and India’s prime minister. In the summit both the countries were vying for the attention of Donald Trump. India got the brownie points when Trump spent a lot of time with Modi. He called Modi “true friend” and Modi in return said Trump who was a man of vast business experience could lead US to better times. Chinese premier Xi Jingping was avoided and Trump made it clear that China’s poor response to curtail North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic programme. The recent the Malabar Exercise, a trilateral naval exercise is a shot in the arm for India and China is watching. China had warned India about its alleged encroachment and even hinted on a war. Arun Jaitley had replied that we were in different times and India’s preparedness was very different from 1962. Indian Navy has bought drones from US to keep a constant surveillance of Indian coast an d Indian Ocean. For peace in Asia, China and India must have discussions and agree on aspects. Discussions is the only way out; war is never an answer.
