EW DELHI: The odd-even car rule in Delhi will continue as per schedule till January 15 after the high court on Monday refused to interfere with the Aam Aadmi Party government’s experiment to check alarming levels of pollution in the national capital.

The ruling of the court, which had earlier wondered why the scheme could not end in a week, came as a relief for the state government. Transport minister Gopal Rai said he is thankful for the verdict which is “in favour of the people of Delhi”.

The Arvind Kejriwal government has claimed that the pollution level in Delhi has shown a declining trend since the 15-day scheme was launched on January 1.

Despite expressing a desire in court to continue the scheme beyond January 15, the government later denied any plans to extend the measure.
