If there were any skeptics amongst us, there are none now. Kohli is the heir apparent and Sachin would be proud of how he has taken on the reigns. At a time when batsmen couldn’t find their depths on a turning pitch, we cannot overstate enough how good an innings Kohli played in front of a packed Eden Gardens.

When he came in at number three after Rohit fell, we found ourselves cheering for Kohli just like many of us did for Sachin, knowing full well that his wicket would be the difference between winning and losing. And when he bowed down in front of Sachin after scoring the 50, you could almost see Sachin relieved knowing that he had left his slot in safer hands.

Kohli’s partner in that big partnership was Yuvraj and his knock must be acknowledged too considering that India were three down with the score stil in twenties. Virat now has the highest number of fifties in the format – 14.

Speaking with Harsha Bhogle and Virender Sehwag after the match Virat said that he was simply determined to score after the last match which India lost once his wicket fell. This maturity at his age means that India remains unbeaten against Pakistan in World Cups. The scoreline is now reads 11-0.

India will take heart from their performance and look to topple Australia next but this game will definitely be remembered for Kohli’s supremacy in the middle. Well done Kohli, we are proud of you!
