New York hosts IIFA Awards Function

The 18th edition of the International Indian Film Academy Awards or IIFA Awards was held in New York on July 15th 2017. Bollywood celebrities like Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Shahid Kapoor, his wife Mira Rajput, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha and Varun Dhawan attended the grand function to celebrate the success of movies from the year 2016. Sonam Kapoor’s film Neerja won the Best Film award and Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor won the Best Actor award for their roles in the film Udta Punjab. Anirudh Roy Chaudhary won the Best Director award for the film Pink. The grand award function was hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar and Saif Ali Khan. Varun Dhawan joined the two for one segment. The award for the Best Actor in Supporting Role (Female) went to Shabana Azmi for her role in Neerja and the best Actor in Supporting Role award (Male) went to Anupam Kher for MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. The Best Debutant (Female) award went to Disha Patani for her role in MS Dhoni: The Untold Story and the Best Debutant (Male) award went to Diljit Dosanjh for his role in Udta Punjab. Amitabh Bhattacharya won the Best Lyricist award for the song Channa Mere Ya from the film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Amit Mishra won the Best Playback Singer (Male) award for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Kanika Kapoor and Tulsi Kumar won the Best Playback Singer (Female) award for the film Udta Punjab and for the film Airlift respectively. The Best Music Direction award went to Pritam Chakraborty for the film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Varun Dhawan won the Best Actor in Comic Role for the film Dishoom and the Myntra Style Icon Award went to Alia Bhatt. Jim Sarbh won the Best Performance in a Negative Role award for the film Neerja and the Best Story award was given to Ayesha Devitre Dhillon and Shakun Batra for the film Kapoor & Sons. IIFA Woman of the Year award went to Tapsee Pannu and this year’s International Indian Film Academy Awards witnessed some excellent performance by Bollywood stars Katrina Kaif, Sushant Singh Rajput, Kriti Sanon and many more. This year’s award IIFA award saw a number of starts skipping the function. Many of the starts like Shah Rukh, Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh were busy with their work others like Priyanka Chopra, Hrithik Roshan and the Bachchans preferred to spend time with family.
