Mr. Sudhanshu Biswas is now a 96 year old freedom fighter from a poor district called Paragans around 35 kms from Kolkata. He teaches values of belief, perseverance and compassion to old and young both. Love for his fellow human beings and country is the main purpose of his life. Founder of Sri Ramakrishna Sevashram at his poor village, he has been living here since 4 decades. When he was a child, the British police had arrested him from the examination hall. Since then with his understanding about meaning and importance about education, he was driven to help and provide education to the less privileged.
As a teenager he left home to fight for freedom of his country, India. In gun battles he managed to dodge death many times and also carried live bombs to attack the British Administration. The British caught and put him in jail for many years. Anushilan Samity is a popular revolutionary group he has been part of. Swami Vivekanandas teachings ‘Service to man is service to God’ enthused him very much. In the Sunderban regions, remote villages he set up 18 schools providing free education to poor kids and orphans.
Teachers from the same village teach in the schools. He also takes responsibility of taking care and bringing up orphan students. Citizens from villages close by are also provided shelter at the hermitage. Shubhendu studied homeopathy and general medicine at the age of 70, collects samples of medicines from doctors and distributes them to those who are sick. He believes that it is only those who live for others who live, while the rest are more like dead than being alive.
